In the world of Sweet Jazz City a lucky few are born with powers attached to their very souls known as "Epithets". An Epithet stems from a single word that can grant its user any kind of power. Words like "Fire", "Coupon", ...or "Soup". A magical artifact known as the "Arsene Amulet" is rumored to be able to steal an epithet from a person, and they say it’s hidden somewhere in the Sweet Jazz Museum... Suddenly, thieves burst down the doors in the middle of the night! Inscribed warriors do battle in the dark of the abandoned exhibits! Dinosaur bones come toppling to the floor! Brendan Blaber began drafting the script for Epithet Erased as early as Fall 2018, and pitched it to VRV in October of the same year. Official production is estimated to have begun in approximately March 2019. May 29, 2019, was the deadline for auditions from local and worldwide voice actors.[1] The series was developed and produced at Sound Cadence Studios and Powerhouse Animation up until the airing of episode 7 on VRV, on December 20th, 2019.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- While the series was in production, Brendan Blaber referred to the series by the pseudonym "Sugar Cookie Jazz," as he was unable to reveal the actual name due to being under a non-disclosure agreement. [2]
- The earliest public mention of the series using this name was in a post on Brendan's social media advertising for show artists to be hired. [3]
- There is a possibility for an Indiegogo for Season 2 onward.[4]
- Season 2 would cost around $550K. It would be 8-9 episodes.[5][6]
- There was a Kickstarter for the book continuation, Prison of Plastic.[6]
- Epithet’s world doesn’t speak English. It speaks a sort of magic Esperanto-type language that combined all the languages that used to exist in the Epithet world into one, so there are way more words than just for one language.[7]
- At least one character that is planned will discover their epithet mid-series.[7]
- At least one character that we have met so far has unlocked their epithet using an Epitome.[7]
- Plasterbrain, the show's music composer, has released the soundtrack for season 1 on her bandcamp and soundcloud pages.
- Each character has their epithet chosen by a randomizer except for Zora. [8]
- Brendan had to remake all of the characters' stats from scratch due to the old system not having any science sense. [9]
- An official Rulebook for an Epithet Erased TTRPG will be produced at the Stretch Goal of $330K on the Prison of Plastic Kickstarter.[6]
- On Sound Candence Studios' website, Epithet Erased and Prison of Plastic are listed as being by "Scrubbadubs", and on Wikipedia it is listed as being by "Scrubba dubs"
- After almost 2 years, a poster for season 1 is hung up in the Sound Candence Studios.[10]
- Random Access Content has made a Spanish Fandub, which Brendan praised as excellent, especially Molly's voice actor.[11]
- The Eyecatchers are inspired by Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Bomberman Jetters,[12]
- One of the main rules for production is to have sprites rotate on an off screen axis instead of the center of the sprite.[13]
- Basically every sprite is based off of Jello posing like cartoon characters.[14]
