Desert Country is a country in the World of Epithet Erased known for its desert and party going culture.
Population[edit | edit source]
There are two main types of people that live in Desert Country they are: The solitary monks who live isolated in the sand and the party-going new-age culture obsessed with neon lights and city life.[1] People now make a living studying martial arts in monasteries built into the ruins, [2] Desert Race people have tanned skin and grey hair from birth.[1]
Whims[edit | edit source]
After the desertification, a few people decided to stay in the land for their advanced technology and medicine, even though the it was deemed cursed. This isolationist culture of hooded people are known as Whims, who live exclusively underground and inside abandoned ruins, scaring and possibly attacking any outsider that got too close. This started a rumor amongst treasure hunters that Whims are spirits of luck and if you ever came across one, it's likely that you were close to some treasure.[3]

Past[edit | edit source]
It was once home to an ancient civilization that was destroyed by meteorites.[2]
Indus Tarbella was born here[5]. At some point he lost a duel with Mera Salamin. He would end up eating sand with her before they left the country.[6]
Constellation[edit | edit source]
Long ago, the desolate wasteland known as Desert country wasn't a desert at all. It was actually the cradle of civilization in times long past, brimming with lush farm land. It's capital city at the time, Constellation, was named so because of it's large, round city centers that we're connected by elevated highways, making it appear as a large constellation from above.[4]
Sand King[edit | edit source]
This city, and the rest of old Desert Country was united under the rule of the Sand King. He was one of the first epithet users, that is to say that he had one way before they were as common as they are in the current era the story takes place in, which caused him to naturally be praised and revered as an unkillable "god", wizard or something similar. This epithet was Undeath, which causes the user to suck life force out of any living thing nearby in substitute for any damage he took. If you were to ever try to damage him with any weapon, the fauna around him would suddenly shrivel and die, hence his name.[4]
Philosophy[edit | edit source]
As soon as the Sand King was declared ruler, a meteor had coincidentally fell in front of the palace on the exact same day. Once this meteor fell, the king noticed that this meteor was actually a geode filled with Amethyst upon inspecting it. One of the geode formations in the meteor was a crown-like shape so striking that it stuck out to him, believing that the stars themselves gifted him for his efforts, even though it was pure . He then relayed this epiphany to the rest of his kingdom, saying that if you exceed in whatever it is you were meant to do, the stars above will reward you with what you deserve. This message kickstarted a major "religion" of sorts that all the monasteries and Indus himself follows.[4]
Sand King's Curse[edit | edit source]
Eventually, the kingdom realized that the king's Undeath affected even his age, causing him to look no more than 30 years old even though he's lived 70. In fear of the Sand King ruling forever, the citizens threw their king into a sarcophagus in his sleep and buried him alive in the middle of the kingdom. Now, any normal person would've suffocated and died, but because of his epithet, the entire kingdom has it's life force rapidly siphoned, turning it into the desert we see today. An even bigger meteor shower occurred shortly after this desertification. Most people believed the land to be cursed because of it.[4]
