Island Country is an archipelago of islands and isthmuses that make up a seafaring community based around trade and travel.[1]
Every island is home to a syndicate called "trade families". These families wage turf wars like mafias and pirates, fighting endlessly over resources and wealth.[2]

The Islanders Military, unsurprisingly, did not have a way to fight the dinosaurs. They lost the city and returned to the ships, firing on the town with their with artillery from a safe distance. The Islanders assumed that the Australians had little knowledge of navel warfare given the maelstrom preventing them from sea travel and they figured they were safe so long as they stayed on their ships.
