Notes:Episode Commentary Tracks

From Epithet Erased Wiki

This is the Notes page of Episode Commentary Tracks.

Episode 1[edit source]

*= needs to be checked for proper spelling or pronoun

(After this needs to be added to pages)

  • This is the first time Brendan watched the series all the way through. (0:13-0:21)
  • They started doing a rule for animation in Episode 4 to make it look less stiff. (0:25-0:35)
  • Originally Brendan was going to be the only editor which was naïve, Episode 1 being assembled "on the fly". Picking up Brendan, Paul Lotsa (Lead Editor), Emily (for Episode 2). uts* and Eric came in late on episode 1 and it barely got done. Also noting at least the intro looks good. (0:46-1:41)
  • Originally the Vocalist was going to be by Sue Koji but due to the old deadline that was sooner and needing to send it Powerhouse, as well as them* not getting back to them*about it soon enough, they* were not chosen. So, he gave Emily the list of options, choosing Sapphire since she is her roommate. (1:44-2:29)
  • Jello had every episode have a different title card because he thought it would be "cute". (2:30-2:33)
  • Sometimes, Jello forgets Martin Blyndeff is in Epithet Erased because he is so not present (only being in one episode) in it. (2:39-2:46)
  • Brendan Blaber finds the bear on his keychain very cute, (2:46-3:01)
  • Stink's teashirt design comes from a game Tee K.O. (it did not win). His boyfriend, pointed out that would be perfect for a shitty extra background character, so he decided to make it so. Marissa Lenti mentioned she had a voice she liked to do to make fun of Gon from Hunter x Hunter. And thus Stink was born. (3:04-3:05)
  • Brendan is a big fan of Mushroom Girl. (4:16-4:20)
  • Rhea had to design every character in like a week and a half. (4:29-4:33)
  • Epithet Erased's first due date was the second week of July which is insane. The final one was November 8, so he managed to get them 8 months. (4:34-4:53)
  • Brendan Blaber used to really hate the term "baby" till when he was editing Molly Blyndeff, where he kept being like "she is so baby". (5:05-5:15)
  • (Rewrite) Jay Preston did a great job at capturing fun and uncomfy. Further explaining that if you overhear one line from him you'd think he was fun but the more you hear the more you realize people have to live with this guy. (5:18-5:51)
  • The big thing in Episode 1 is people didn't understand the in-character narration. Brendan Blaber understands this but it's fine since it is an experimental show. He'd cut more and more out that by Episodes 6 and 7 there's not much of it. However, what's left flows really well. The main reason it's in there is budgetary since there is a lot of actions that would take more money to show properly visually without naration. (5:54-6:29)
  • The first nine minutes, which is what Paul Latza edited, is the longest editing segment anyone on the show did. (6:52-6:59)
  • The trickiest part of the "museum episodes" was sizing everyone to each other, especially Indus Tarbella. His line weights are too thick (especially before the thinned them) and his head is small compared to his body (Unlike everyone who's head is big compared to their body). (7:04-8:00)
  • Brendan describes the kaleidoscope effect on the reveal cards as a pain in the butt. The whole show has a kaleidoscope theme underlying it. The floor of the maps and backgrounds have geometric patterns laid over them. It's subtle but in the later half of the show Brendan made it more obvious. (8:11-8:37)
  • There was problems with zooming in enough without it being blurry. Sometimes it was impossible to prevent without redrawing things. The trickiest scene according to Brendan was in episode 2 where Giovanni and Molly jump on top of a background object then it zooms into their faces so the setting can be changed (8:38-9:01)
  • Brendan says that the line "easy to trick into eating bugs" is one of his favorites. (9:02-9:05)
  • Brendan likes the eye catches and says they are a good excuse to provide information he couldn't put in the show. (9:06-9:20)
  • This is the first scene Emily worked on. (9:26-9:28)
  • Brendan made the decision not to care about flipped things on portraits like Ramsey's gold eye. (9:33-9:55)
  • They didn't use the map often for the first two episodes but later realized it was easier. (10:00-10:06)
  • Brendan did the security footage effect. (10:07-10:10)
  • This scene was Emily's longest scene. Brendan made her redo Giovanni kicking the pot "about a hundred and fifty times". No one had story boards for the first episode. Brendan mocked up every shot in Photoshop and sent them to people. This led to him being late delivering them in the final 3 episodes because he had to spend an extra week polishing the previous episode. Eric was the only person who got storyboards on time with the tight schedule. (10:16-10:57)
  • The Banzai Blasters are floating above the ground. (10:58-11:07)
  • (Expand) Brendan explains how Epithet was animated. They used Aftereffects for this project for this reason. Brendan says he mostly likes Aftereffect except its bad for audio. (11:24-12:12)
  • Giovanni has a five in creativity because "his epithet sucks but he has a lot of fun uses for it" (12:22-12:26)
  • One of Phoenicia's ancestors is in a painting on the wall. Which would be part of season 2 and 5 lore. (12:27-12:47)
  • Brendan loves Molly's being held by Giovanni pose. (12:57-13:00)
  • The portraits float without rotating in the first 2 episodes because they didn't have time to set it up. (13:07-13:17)
  • Brendan comments on Molly's lack of movement while Giovanni is monologuing. He also mentions how tiny Molly looks next to Giovanni. (13:31-13:40)
  • Jello says Kyle Igneczi as Giovanni and Dani Chambers as Molly "make the show". (13:58-14:09)
  • Jello plays Ben. (14:15-14:19)
  • Jello thinks this is Utz* first scene (14:31-14-35)

(After this needs to be added)

Episode 2[edit source]

  • Brendan thought of the episode as "the problem episode". (00:13-00:30)
  • This is the first episode that they added Molly onto the editing staff and he was largely responsible for editing maps. (00:30-00:40)

Episode 3[edit source]

Episode 4[edit source]

  • This is the only episode that starts with no cold open. (0:10-0:16)

Episode 5[edit source]

Episode 6[edit source]

Episode 7[edit source]

  • This is Brendan's favorite episode despite how much of a nightmare it was. (0:14-0:25)
