==Appearance==
Arnold is an adult man of average height with light brown skin. He has striped white streaks that run through his slicked black hair, resembling a barcode. Arnold also wears rectangular glasses and keeps a pencil perched above his left ear. He wears a green-gray turtleneck sweater underneath his yellow [[Banzai Blasters|Banzai Blaster]] outfit. The outfit has yellow diamond-shaped shoulder pads and a zipper running down the chest, with the Banzai Blaster logo as its slider. As a Banzai Vice Principal, Arnold wears the associated white "cartoon" gloves and a green-gray fanny pack around his waist. He also wears white boots similar to those seen on all Banzai Blasters.

He is 5'8"<ref name="API" /> and his black and white striped hair is natural.

Arnold holds high regard for himself and belittles anyone below his rank, even mistreating his minions due to their undying loyalty.

He is a shopper obsessed with savvy dealings and savings of his coupons. But, this can be a fatal logical weakness. Without his coupons, he panics and whines. [[Ramsey Murdoch]] also psychologically manipulated Arnold by offering him coupons or financial savings.

During the raid, Arnold and [[Bugsy Pugsler]] encountered [[Giovanni Potage]], who had just left the [[Redwood Run Police Station]] to turn in the [[Arsene Amulet]] to the Banzai Baron. When they noticed the amulet in his hands, the two began to belittle Giovanni sheerly because of his rank. Arnold ordered Giovanni to hand it over to them. Reasonably upset, Giovanni complained that he had earned the amulet fair and square, afterward reinforcing they couldn't just take their minion's hard work. Arnold then responded that minions are tools, which deeply upset the captain. After Bugsy taunted Giovanni over where his minions were, the two crowded their Banzai Team around him. Seeing the distinct lack of Potage's lackeys, Arnold stated that they were simply the better villains before he ordered the Blasters to attack Giovanni.<ref name="EP5" />

After thoroughly beating Giovanni, Arnold complemented Bugsy on the stolen necklace around his neck. The two laughed in the wake of a possible promotion. Suddenly, Giovanni interrupted their guffawing by saying that the two weren't villains but jerks. Arnold stared at the captain, explaining that cheating and other selfish behaviors were how people of note moved up the ranks and why idiots stayed minions. In contempt of Arnold, Giovanni angrily announced his resignation from the [[Banzai Blasters]]. As he turned to leave, he remembered that his ride had not arrived yet. Ashamedly, he headed towards the [[Howdy Morning's Tavern|tavern]], causing Arnold and his fellow Blasters to laugh at the red-haired former captain before they left the scene themselves.<ref name="EP5" />

Later, Arnold and Bugsy entered the tavern and found [[Percival King]], who had failed to arrest Giovanni, surrounded by their Banzai Blasters. After Bugsy briefly attempted to intimidate the detective, Arnold also tried to intimate her, saying she was surrounded and outnumbered. However, Percy paid no mind to their threats. She constructed a wizard tower to stop the Banzai Blasters' bullets magnetically. After a brief brawl, [[Howdy Morning]] entered the fight and shot his soup shotgun at Arnold. Arnold stared at the soup heading for his face, confused. Bugsy then pushed him out of the way and ate it. Seeing this, the Banzai Blasters hid under tables to cover themselves from Bugsy's upcoming use of his ability. The vice principal then used his epithet to shoot an ice blast at Percy's wizard tower, destroying it. After Bugsy briefly explained his powers, Arnold used his epithet to give the other vice principal a '2 for 1' deal. The coupon allowed Bugsy to fire another ice blast, freezing Percy's arm. Arnold bragged about his powers before the townies previously occupying the bar fled. Arnold then asked Bugsy if they should go after them, but the overweight principal kept their attention on Percy.<ref name="EP6" />

As the two made their way from the front of the tavern to the police officer, [[Ramsey Murdoch]] stood between them and threatened them with his box of crayons. Arnold taunted the artist before Bugsy pushed Ramsey out of their way. They continued their march when Ramsey threw his crayons at Bugsy, harming him. Arnold then used his epithet to exchange Ramsey's attack for one of equal or lesser value, consequentially healing Bugsy. Bugsy then consumed the crayons and coughed up a pile of rubber ducks, causing Arnold to stammer. Arnold was even more confused after Bugsy ate another shot of Howdy's soup shotgun, only for it to burn his mouth. Giovanni then revealed himself, pushed Bugsy over, and taunted the Blasters, causing Arnold to stutter even further. Giovanni mocked the vice principal and attempted to recruit his Blasters. Arnold tried to regain control of the situation, flipping through his coupons to see if they could apply to any of his minions. Annoyed, Giovanni spilled soup onto them, briefly stopping Arnold.<ref name="EP6" />

Erratic, Arnold checked up on Bugsy, who irately told him to continue the fight. Arnold then barked at the Blasters to get out from under the tables, calling them cowards. He tried to rally them by again bragging about his epithet's abilities, only to realize he had used most of his beneficial coupons early on. Seeing a worried Arnold looking through his catalog, Ramsey nonchalantly turned his coupons to gold, utterly defeating Arnold. Bugsy, reading the room, then selfishly retreated, causing Arnold to throw insults at him as he left the tavern. Suddenly, Arnold was held at sword point while the remaining Blasters followed Bugsy. The vice principal tried to escape himself, but Ramsey merely tripped him.<ref name="EP6" />

While down, Percy cuffed Arnold and asked where Bugsy would have gone. Despite Bugsy's betrayal, Arnold stayed loyal, telling her nothing. However, Ramsey convinced Howdy to promote one of the tavern's meal deals. Arnold, entranced by the thoughts of savings, then gave up Bugsy and told the two that he and the other vice principal planned to leave Redwood via the train station. He then beckoned Howdy to hand him his deal, to which the bartender complied. Percy and Murdoch then gave chase, keeping Arnold under the surveillance of Howdy and explicitly ordering him to keep Arnold in his sigh. However, once the two left the tavern, Howdy grabbed his shotgun, reasoning that being blind meant he couldn't see Arnold. Arnold gulped in terror as the bartender did so.<ref name="EP6" />

Cinnamon Josh is the inscribed responsible for creating the [[Arsene Amulet]]

==Appearance==
Despite Cinnamon Josh's name, Cinnamon Josh is a mime who wears a monotone outfit. They wear a brown and white striped shirt reminiscent of a burglar or cat. They also wear white belts around their waist and a brown belt adorned with many buckles flows from their side invoking imagery of a striped cat tail. The most noticeable splash of color in Cinnamon Josh's outfit is a pair of reddish orange feathers placed atop their hat. These feathers look like cat ears. Cinnamon Josh has two white gloves with hearts on them. These gloves have flavored cuffs that extend about the same amount as Cinnamon Josh's hands. Cinnamon Josh wears basic brown pants with white boots adorned with a heart and diamond symbol. Cinnamon Josh wears a golden necklace with a green diamond at the end. This is reminiscent of the [[Arsene Amulet]] but distinctly lacks the heart shape of the gem and the cat designs of the amulet. Cinnamon Josh wears a cape.

==Personality==
Cinnamon Josh is a trickster, but a good sport. Cinnamon Josh aims to have a good time and cause a ruckus.

They often perform skits and gags whilst sacrificing objects of incredible importance to do so. Cinnamon Josh has been said to be a "Gentleman Thief". This means Cinnamon Josh is sophisticated and charming. Cinnamon Josh does not speak with a unique voice, but mimics the voices of those around them.

They are willing to steal items of immense value to continue their theming of a magical mime, often sacrificing priceless artefacts to do elevator gags. They seem to be at some level unable to understand the value of objects as they sacrifice fortunes to the void just for a bit. This is likely a result of their zany personality.

Cinnamon Josh was a master thief back in their day. They pulled massive heists all by their lonesome when they were still in their prime. After many years of heists, all done in an attempt to fuel Cinnamon Josh's magic, Cinnamon Josh is about seventy years ole and utterly alone. They have no one that could be their predecessors, but they desperately want their [[epithet]] to live on. So, Cinnamon Josh makes the [[Arsene Amulet]] to keep their epithet alive. This is approximately sixty five years ago, making Cinnamon Josh one hundred and thirty five if they are still alive.

=== TTRPG Heist ===
An older Cinnamon Josh breaks into a aristocrats penthouse put put course in [[Longshot]]. A group of Whims breaks in to this put put course to retrieve the jade cactus that was stolen from them. Once they arrive, Cinnamon Josh is nine holes into their game of put put. The Whims fight their way through glass walls, magic walls, lazers, and splinters in an attempt to best Cinnamon Jost at put put so they can rightfully retrieve the jade cactus. The Whims are likely successful, leading to the possible only known case of Cinnamon Josh failing a heist.

===What qualifies as an "epithet"===
*While the characters in-universe are unaware of this, epithets exist in the [[World of Epithet Erased]] because everyone in this world speaks the exact same language. The in-universe rule is that once almost every member of a species speaks the same language, the words of that language begin to manifest in the ether because everybody understands them. This means that any word with a widely understood meaning can become an epithet and be pulled from the ether and inscribed upon a soul.
*Epithets consist of two parts: The word itself, and the concepts attached to that word.
*This includes slang, meaning, “Yeet” can be an epithet. ([[Brendan Blaber]] has literally gotten over 100 people asking him if “Yeet” could be an epithet.)
*A word needs to enter the collective public’s understanding before it can be an epithet. This means a word that only you and your friends use cannot be an epithet, but a slang term common across a major metropolitan area could be.
*Brand names cannot be epithets. Your epithet cannot be “Walmart”.
**There is a small exception to this rule: If a brand name becomes so synonymous with a concept that it eclipses the brand itself and becomes a general term all on its own, THAT word can be an epithet. For example: “Thermos” is a household term for a specific object. That object is technically called a vacuum flask, but nobody knows that. So “Thermos” would be the epithet.
*Once a word becomes a viable epithet, it never loses that status. This means that slang words from the 1920s nobody uses anymore like “horsefeathers”, “bushwa”, and “spifflicated” can still be someone’s Epithet. This means that a lot of “[[mundies]]” have epithets they don’t know about, but their words are so archaic that they’ll never realize it.
*The people in the World of Epithet Erased doesn’t speak English, they speak a sort of “fantasy Esperanto” language formed by combining all their world’s languages together. This means that words in any real-world language can be an epithet.
**Epithets are traditionally *one* word, but there are exceptions. For instance, the term “Ice Cream” means something very specific that can only be expressed in English by putting two words together. Meanwhile in other languages such as Spanish it’s just one word, “Helado”. We can assume that any “two-word” epithets are represented by one word in the Epithet language.
*If a word has multiple concepts or associations (such as [[Molly Blyndeff]] ‘Dumb”) then the user may tap into as many of these meanings as their creativity allows. Oftentimes users will tend to drift towards one specific connotation of their Epithet. For instance, Molly associates “Dumb” with simplification of pain and can dumb down any pain someone feels physically, whether she can dumb down emotional pain is unknown.
**If a word acquires new meaning over time, that meaning can be used in an epithet’s powerset.

===How does “having an epithet” work?===
*Inscribed people are born with their epithet attached to their soul at birth. It is completely randomized whether or not you will have one, and what your word will be.
*Everyone’s epithet starts at “Level 1” and is extremely weak. To “level up” your epithet, you have to use it more. Epithets are primarily based on the user’s creativity and self-understanding, so they need to understand and experiment with their powers if they want to strengthen and diversify them. This means that a baby will not come out swinging with the ability to breath fire. The baby does not understand “fire” and will have no chance of unlocking their epithet until they can comprehend basic concepts.
*Genetics do not affect epithets. For example: [[Molly Blyndeff]] and [[Lorelai Blyndeff|her sister]] have epithets, but both of their parents are [[mundies]]. The reverse is also fairly common.
* Under no circumstances can two people have the same epithet at the same time, even identical twins. Similar epithets are allowed to exist though and depending on how the users train them they may end up having near-identical power sets.
*Derivatives of words such as “Burn”, “Burning”, and “Burned” all count as the same epithet.
*If an epithet user dies, their epithet becomes obtainable again and, in the future, someone may end up with the same epithet. This is extremely uncommon, but possible.
*Epithets may affect or reflect their users mental or physical state (EX: [[Mera Salamin]]), or they may not (EX: Molly). It’s all in the luck of the draw.
*Epithet powers are present whether the user is aware of them or not. This means that inscribed can feel the effects of their epithet or even accidentally use their own powers without knowing they even have them.
*Similarly, inscribed can “level” their epithet without ever knowing they have one.
*The stronger your epithet, the more it manifests on your body. This usually starts on or around the eyes, but not always. (EX: Zora’s “tattoos”, the crack in Mera’s irises).
*People cannot “misinterpret their own epithet" and get a different power by, for instance, thinking their epithet is another word. Epithets are only “up to interpretation by the user” so far as the word actually works. For instance, Molly can use the word “Dumb” to stop people from speaking or to “dumb things down” (two definitions of the same word), but she cannot misinterpret her own word as “Drum” because it sounds similar and use her epithet to make a marching beat.

==Obtainment==
Everybody is born as a “[[mundie]]”. People have no idea if they have an epithet or not until they stumble on it. This moment is called an '''Epiphany'''. Usually, when somebody hears their epithet spoken aloud or if they read the word written down somewhere there’s a sort of… "click" in their head. It’s a 6th-sense thing. You feel drawn to that word, and often to its synonyms. Think of it like a magical game of hot-cold where your brain is a metal detector, beeping louder the closer and closer you get to your epithet.<ref name=":0" />

* Of course, this also creates false positives. Sometimes people just enjoy certain words, and they go “Ooh! The word 'Archipelago' really resonates with me! I’m going to spend 2 months trying to figure out how to use island-based powers!” but nope, they just like the word. It’s not their epithet. It’s impossible to tell if you’ve got the right word until you finally snag it. Kind of like fishing! You keep imagining nibbles until you really feel the bite. And remember it’s more likely that you don’t have any epithet at all, so you might never find it. Some Inscribed people never do.<ref name=":0" />

* It’s a common thing for little kids to try and sit down and go through the entire dictionary to slowly figure out what their word is, but this rarely pans out too well. Epithet’s world doesn’t speak English. It speaks a sort of magic Esperanto-type language that combined all the languages that used to exist in the Epithet world into one, so there are way more words than just for one language. Not only that, but you need to consider archaic words no longer in use, which you often won’t find in a dictionary. Slang words also count. The only real metric for whether a word is fair game or not is “Does this word successfully encapsulate a specific idea?”<ref name=":0" />

* There are cases where people discover they have an epithet, but they don’t know exactly what it is. Sometimes it takes months or years to discover the right word. For instance, a person might be able to generate little clouds and affect the weather slightly, but it could take them quite a while before they find their specific word is "Stratiformus".<ref name=":0" />

* Another (significantly less common) way of discovering your epithet comes in the form of an Epitome. An Epitome is the strongest, absolute, most powerful use of an epithet you can possibly squeeze out of your word. A few Nova-class Inscribed can use their Epitome at will ([[Zora Salazar|Zora]] has one). Very rarely, in situations of extreme danger, a person who previously thought they were a mundie will unlock their epithet by way of unleashing an Epitome through the sheer need to survive. Think of it like the Inscribed version of an adrenaline rush.<ref name=":0"/>

==Development==
Once somebody has their epiphany, they need to figure out how to actually do things with it, and what they’re able to do is heavily tied to what the word evokes for the user. For instance, if your epithet is the word “Beach”, your powers would develop differently based on what you associate with the beach. One person might think of the beach and picture themselves building sandcastles, and so they develop a sand-based power. Another might have a deep fear of the ocean and gain the ability to summon sharks and storms. A third could’ve grown up near a shore-side boardwalk, so for them beaches are associated with Ferris wheels and terrible hot dogs. That’s not to say that any of those people couldn’t learn how to do ALL of those things eventually, but they will have something they gravitate towards first when they think of the word “Beach.”<ref name=":0" />

There are cases where people use their unknown epithet by accident, either passively or actively. [[Mera Salamin]], for instance, was affected by her power from an early age and accidentally used it many times before she even realized she was Inscribed. Mera just thought she had really terrible luck when it came to breaking things. You can see this in [[Reflection|Episode 4]] the window begins to crack because subconsciously she wants to break it and be on the other side with the kids playing in the snow.<ref name=":0" />

Your epithet is trained by using it over and over again and finding new applications for your word. It is hinted at throughout the series that, within society, Inscribed are on average better off than [[Mundies]]:

* The [[Banzai Blasters]] have yet to show any [[Banzai Captain|Blasters Captains]] or Vice Principals, that aren't Inscribed while all the [[Banzai Blasters|blasters]] shown, except [[Dark Star]], so far are all Mundies.

* [[Gorou Shimizaki]] was chosen as the Sheriff of [[Redwood Run]], entirely because he was Inscribed. This is despite the fact that [[Gorou Shimizaki|Gorou]] is completely incompetent as a sheriff. [[Ramsey Murdoch|Ramsey]] mentions that it's common for Inscribed to get special positions or benefits entirely on the fact that they are Inscribed, regardless of their actual merit.

* [[Howie Honeyglow]] has a rivalry with [[Percival King|Percy]] as a result of them both working construction: Howie was forced to build up his skill through merit in order to be a skilled construction worker, while [[Percival King|Percy]] can simply use her Epithet whenever she worked construction. Howie has an open dislike for Inscribed and thus a rivalry with [[Percival King|Percy]]. [[Zora Salazar|Zora]], despite being Inscribed herself, has a similar view about how unfair Epithets are: which is a primary reason why [[Zora Salazar|Zora]] wants the [[Arsene Amulet]] for herself.

It is actually common for Inscribed to underestimate Mundies. [[Ramsey Murdoch|Ramsey]] notes that it was a Mundie that damaged his right eye. [[Ramsey Murdoch|Ramsey]] also pointed out that [[Percival King|Percy]] did not bother to handcuff or restrain [[Ramsey Murdoch|Ramsey]] in any way when [[Percival King|Percy]] believed that he was a Mundie, despite the fact that [[Ramsey Murdoch|Ramsey]] admitted to being an imprisoned criminal: [[Percival King|Percy]] admits that she thought that since [[Ramsey Murdoch|Ramsey]] was a Mundie and had agreed to help her, then he would not have any reason to fight back because without an Epithet, he wouldn't want to lie about assisting.

Because of the unique abilities Epithets grant, many Inscribed characters want to avoid losing their Epithets to become a Mundie. [[Molly Blyndeff|Molly]] did point out to [[Mera Salamin|Mera]] that the latter can remove her fragility and constant pain by having the [[Arsene Amulet]] take her Epithet away: but [[Mera Salamin|Mera]] stiffly opposed this, not wanting to get rid of her power she spent so much time training, the only fruit born from her years of pain. [[Sylvester Ashling|Sylvester]] desperately begged for his Epithet to be returned when it was temporarily stolen by the [[Arsene Amulet|Amulet]]. [[Molly Blyndeff|Molly]] actually considered allowing her Epithet to be stolen due to its limited uses, but was convinced by [[Giovanni Potage|Giovanni]] that her Epithet was special and more useful than [[Molly Blyndeff|Molly]] originally thought. ===What qualifies as an "epithet"===
*While the characters in-universe are unaware of this, epithets exist in the [[World of Epithet Erased]] because everyone in this world speaks the exact same language. The in-universe rule is that once almost every member of a species speaks the same language, the words of that language begin to manifest in the ether because everybody understands them. This means that any word with a widely understood meaning can become an epithet and be pulled from the ether and inscribed upon a soul.
*Epithets consist of two parts: The word itself, and the concepts attached to that word.
*This includes slang, meaning, “Yeet” can be an epithet. ([[Brendan Blaber]] has literally gotten over 100 people asking him if “Yeet” could be an epithet.)
*A word needs to enter the collective public’s understanding before it can be an epithet. This means a word that only you and your friends use cannot be an epithet, but a slang term common across a major metropolitan area could be.
*Brand names cannot be epithets. Your epithet cannot be “Walmart”.
**There is a small exception to this rule: If a brand name becomes so synonymous with a concept that it eclipses the brand itself and becomes a general term all on its own, THAT word can be an epithet. For example: “Thermos” is a household term for a specific object. That object is technically called a vacuum flask, but nobody knows that. So “Thermos” would be the epithet.
*Once a word becomes a viable epithet, it never loses that status. This means that slang words from the 1920s nobody uses anymore like “horsefeathers”, “bushwa”, and “spifflicated” can still be someone’s Epithet. This means that a lot of “[[mundies]]” have epithets they don’t know about, but their words are so archaic that they’ll never realize it.
*The people in the World of Epithet Erased doesn’t speak English, they speak a sort of “fantasy Esperanto” language formed by combining all their world’s languages together. This means that words in any real-world language can be an epithet.
**Epithets are traditionally *one* word, but there are exceptions. For instance, the term “Ice Cream” means something very specific that can only be expressed in English by putting two words together. Meanwhile in other languages such as Spanish it’s just one word, “Helado”. We can assume that any “two-word” epithets are represented by one word in the Epithet language.
*If a word has multiple concepts or associations (such as [[Molly Blyndeff]] ‘Dumb”) then the user may tap into as many of these meanings as their creativity allows. Oftentimes users will tend to drift towards one specific connotation of their Epithet. For instance, Molly associates “Dumb” with simplification of pain and can dumb down any pain someone feels physically, whether she can dumb down emotional pain is unknown.
**If a word acquires new meaning over time, that meaning can be used in an epithet’s powerset.

===How does “having an epithet” work?===
*Inscribed people are born with their epithet attached to their soul at birth. It is completely randomized whether or not you will have one, and what your word will be.
*Everyone’s epithet starts at “Level 1” and is extremely weak. To “level up” your epithet, you have to use it more. Epithets are primarily based on the user’s creativity and self-understanding, so they need to understand and experiment with their powers if they want to strengthen and diversify them. This means that a baby will not come out swinging with the ability to breath fire. The baby does not understand “fire” and will have no chance of unlocking their epithet until they can comprehend basic concepts.
*Genetics do not affect epithets. For example: [[Molly Blyndeff]] and [[Lorelai Blyndeff|her sister]] have epithets, but both of their parents are [[mundies]]. The reverse is also fairly common.
* Under no circumstances can two people have the same epithet at the same time, even identical twins. Similar epithets are allowed to exist though and depending on how the users train them they may end up having near-identical power sets.
*Derivatives of words such as “Burn”, “Burning”, and “Burned” all count as the same epithet.
*If an epithet user dies, their epithet becomes obtainable again and, in the future, someone may end up with the same epithet. This is extremely uncommon, but possible.
*Epithets may affect or reflect their users mental or physical state (EX: [[Mera Salamin]]), or they may not (EX: Molly). It’s all in the luck of the draw.
*Epithet powers are present whether the user is aware of them or not. This means that inscribed can feel the effects of their epithet or even accidentally use their own powers without knowing they even have them.
*Similarly, inscribed can “level” their epithet without ever knowing they have one.
*The stronger your epithet, the more it manifests on your body. This usually starts on or around the eyes, but not always. (EX: Zora’s “tattoos”, the crack in Mera’s irises).
*People cannot “misinterpret their own epithet" and get a different power by, for instance, thinking their epithet is another word. Epithets are only “up to interpretation by the user” so far as the word actually works. For instance, Molly can use the word “Dumb” to stop people from speaking or to “dumb things down” (two definitions of the same word), but she cannot misinterpret her own word as “Drum” because it sounds similar and use her epithet to make a marching beat.

==Obtainment==
Everybody is born as a “[[mundie]]”. People have no idea if they have an epithet or not until they stumble on it. This moment is called an '''Epiphany'''. Usually, when somebody hears their epithet spoken aloud or if they read the word written down somewhere there’s a sort of… "click" in their head. It’s a 6th-sense thing. You feel drawn to that word, and often to its synonyms. Think of it like a magical game of hot-cold where your brain is a metal detector, beeping louder the closer and closer you get to your epithet.<ref name=":0" />

* Of course, this also creates false positives. Sometimes people just enjoy certain words, and they go “Ooh! The word 'Archipelago' really resonates with me! I’m going to spend 2 months trying to figure out how to use island-based powers!” but nope, they just like the word. It’s not their epithet. It’s impossible to tell if you’ve got the right word until you finally snag it. Kind of like fishing! You keep imagining nibbles until you really feel the bite. And remember it’s more likely that you don’t have any epithet at all, so you might never find it. Some Inscribed people never do.<ref name=":0" />

* It’s a common thing for little kids to try and sit down and go through the entire dictionary to slowly figure out what their word is, but this rarely pans out too well. Epithet’s world doesn’t speak English. It speaks a sort of magic Esperanto-type language that combined all the languages that used to exist in the Epithet world into one, so there are way more words than just for one language. Not only that, but you need to consider archaic words no longer in use, which you often won’t find in a dictionary. Slang words also count. The only real metric for whether a word is fair game or not is “Does this word successfully encapsulate a specific idea?”<ref name=":0" />

* There are cases where people discover they have an epithet, but they don’t know exactly what it is. Sometimes it takes months or years to discover the right word. For instance, a person might be able to generate little clouds and affect the weather slightly, but it could take them quite a while before they find their specific word is "Stratiformus".<ref name=":0" />

* Another (significantly less common) way of discovering your epithet comes in the form of an Epitome. An Epitome is the strongest, absolute, most powerful use of an epithet you can possibly squeeze out of your word. A few Nova-class Inscribed can use their Epitome at will ([[Zora Salazar|Zora]] has one). Very rarely, in situations of extreme danger, a person who previously thought they were a mundie will unlock their epithet by way of unleashing an Epitome through the sheer need to survive. Think of it like the Inscribed version of an adrenaline rush.<ref name=":0"/>

==Development==
Once somebody has their epiphany, they need to figure out how to actually do things with it, and what they’re able to do is heavily tied to what the word evokes for the user. For instance, if your epithet is the word “Beach”, your powers would develop differently based on what you associate with the beach. One person might think of the beach and picture themselves building sandcastles, and so they develop a sand-based power. Another might have a deep fear of the ocean and gain the ability to summon sharks and storms. A third could’ve grown up near a shore-side boardwalk, so for them beaches are associated with Ferris wheels and terrible hot dogs. That’s not to say that any of those people couldn’t learn how to do ALL of those things eventually, but they will have something they gravitate towards first when they think of the word “Beach.”<ref name=":0" />

There are cases where people use their unknown epithet by accident, either passively or actively. [[Mera Salamin]], for instance, was affected by her power from an early age and accidentally used it many times before she even realized she was Inscribed. Mera just thought she had really terrible luck when it came to breaking things. You can see this in [[Reflection|Episode 4]] the window begins to crack because subconsciously she wants to break it and be on the other side with the kids playing in the snow.<ref name=":0" />

Your epithet is trained by using it over and over again and finding new applications for your word. It is hinted at throughout the series that, within society, Inscribed are on average better off than [[Mundies]]:

* The [[Banzai Blasters]] have yet to show any [[Banzai Captain|Blasters Captains]] or Vice Principals, that aren't Inscribed while all the [[Banzai Blasters|blasters]] shown, except [[Dark Star]], so far are all Mundies.

* [[Gorou Shimizaki]] was chosen as the Sheriff of [[Redwood Run]], entirely because he was Inscribed. This is despite the fact that [[Gorou Shimizaki|Gorou]] is completely incompetent as a sheriff. [[Ramsey Murdoch|Ramsey]] mentions that it's common for Inscribed to get special positions or benefits entirely on the fact that they are Inscribed, regardless of their actual merit.

* [[Howie Honeyglow]] has a rivalry with [[Percival King|Percy]] as a result of them both working construction: Howie was forced to build up his skill through merit in order to be a skilled construction worker, while [[Percival King|Percy]] can simply use her Epithet whenever she worked construction. Howie has an open dislike for Inscribed and thus a rivalry with [[Percival King|Percy]]. [[Zora Salazar|Zora]], despite being Inscribed herself, has a similar view about how unfair Epithets are: which is a primary reason why [[Zora Salazar|Zora]] wants the [[Arsene Amulet]] for herself.

It is actually common for Inscribed to underestimate Mundies. [[Ramsey Murdoch|Ramsey]] notes that it was a Mundie that damaged his right eye. [[Ramsey Murdoch|Ramsey]] also pointed out that [[Percival King|Percy]] did not bother to handcuff or restrain [[Ramsey Murdoch|Ramsey]] in any way when [[Percival King|Percy]] believed that he was a Mundie, despite the fact that [[Ramsey Murdoch|Ramsey]] admitted to being an imprisoned criminal: [[Percival King|Percy]] admits that she thought that since [[Ramsey Murdoch|Ramsey]] was a Mundie and had agreed to help her, then he would not have any reason to fight back because without an Epithet, he wouldn't want to lie about assisting.

Because of the unique abilities Epithets grant, many Inscribed characters want to avoid losing their Epithets to become a Mundie. [[Molly Blyndeff|Molly]] did point out to [[Mera Salamin|Mera]] that the latter can remove her fragility and constant pain by having the [[Arsene Amulet]] take her Epithet away: but [[Mera Salamin|Mera]] stiffly opposed this, not wanting to get rid of her power she spent so much time training, the only fruit born from her years of pain. [[Sylvester Ashling|Sylvester]] desperately begged for his Epithet to be returned when it was temporarily stolen by the [[Arsene Amulet|Amulet]]. [[Molly Blyndeff|Molly]] actually considered allowing her Epithet to be stolen due to its limited uses, but was convinced by [[Giovanni Potage|Giovanni]] that her Epithet was special and more useful than [[Molly Blyndeff|Molly]] originally thought. She also realised she needs her Epithet to deal with her home life, as shown In [[Prison of Plastic]].
